Taking Back Sunday: Line Up Switch

 Written By: Jade Hawkins

It's with shock that I report that Matt Rubano (bass) is leaving the american band, 'Taking Back Sunday'. He leaves after seven years with the band. Rubano gave the following statement:

"After seven years I'm sad to announce that I will no longer be playing the bass with Taking Back Sunday. I would like to thank Adam, Eddie and Mark for giving me this amazing opportunity that changed my life. I am proud of the music we made together and cherished every moment of it. And to Taking Back Sunday fans, there isn't anything I can say that will express the way I feel toward you. It's literally been a dream come true and you were the cast of that dream. I am happy to have met and befriended so many of you. I will miss you all."

I can also report that guitarist Matt Fazzi is also leaving 'Taking Back Sunday'. Matt Fazzi released the following statement:

"To everyone in the TBS family, it is with great sadness I am announcing today that I am no longer a part of Taking Back Sunday. The last 2 years with Taking Back Sunday have been beyond a dream come true, from touring and playing with bands that I really admire, to playing new places all around the world, to meeting and working with so many wonderful people along the way. It’s something that I never once took for granted and that I will never forget. I want to thank Eddie, Matt, Adam and Mark for giving me the chance to play and make music with them, if even for a short while. We’ve accomplished a lot in a short time that I will forever be proud of. Thanks to everyone involved for making this such a beautiful experience for me, especially YOU, the fans. You have been so warm and receptive to me since I joined and for this I am forever grateful. As for me, I will continue on with my own music and I hope to see some of your smiling faces around soon."

These sudden departures leaves only Adam Lazzara (vocals), Eddie Reyes (guitarist) and Mark O'Connell(drummers) as the current members although it is rumored that John Nalan (guitar) and Shaun Cooper (bass) have both rejoined the band.

Absence of Freud confirmed as Support to Kings_Ov_Leon @ The Embassy (Skegness)

Written By: Ian S. Russell

Skegness based Grunge-rock-4-piece have today confirmed they will supporting the current #1 touring tribute to Kings Of Leon at the Skegness date of there UK-Wide tour.

OK, So it's very odd for us to be covering a local band & a tribute band on the site and indeed our motives may be quite self-involved - Absence of Freud happen to be very close friends of mine, and its me that managed to get them the slot... BUT that should not take away anything from just how amazing this band are, playing a fusion of covers & original material they really are 1 of the best currently un-signed bands I've heard in a long time - and that's saying something!

Then there's The Kings_Ov_Leon, a highly respected tribute band to 1 of the most sucsessful indie-band in current times, they have vowed to perform a blisteringly talented set of the greatest hits from the Kings Of Leon back-catolog.

This really is a gig not to be missed, 1 of the greatest indie-tirbutes around paired with a band that are set to storm the UK music scene - catch them now while they are in the smaller venues guys!

The Stone Temple Pilots Crash And Burn On Stage - Break-Up Number 2 Coming Soon?

Written By: Ian S. Russell

Mr Weiland is hitting the front page of our blog once again - how many times is he going to make a news-worthy D++K out of himself this month? Turns out at-least onces more
As news broke about the erratic-drug-fuelled ex Velvet Revolver front-man and current Stone Temple Pilot was not present at the recording of the latest STP album recording - apparently due to the band working better away from Scott, the latest Stone Temple Pilot crash was annousned.

It seems the band again ditched there front-man live on stage at the latest STP gig in Milwaukee on March 26. This comes only 2 days after Scott 'lost ballence' and fell off stage mid-song at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Eye witness's from the latest incident report the singer made several mistakes during the shortened set, and at one point totally forgot the lyrics to 'Dead and Bloated' this caused the rest of the band to try to improvise while Weiland regained his barings.

An eye-witness reports the early ending of the gig:
"I saw Robert look at Dean and shake his head, as if to say, 'This isn't going to be salvageable' and then, finally, the Deleos took off their instruments and walked to the side of the stage. [Drummer Eric] Kretz kept drumming and Weiland seemed oblivious to the fact that there was no more guitar and bass. He [kept] kind of improvising on the melody and singing until Kretz played an ending-of-the-song kind of drum thing to try to signal to Scott to wrap it up, but he kept singing a bit after that. Then, Kretz got up and walked right past Scott without looking at him or touching him, and off the stage on the same side that the DeLeos went. Scott finally then walked off stage on the other side."

This is just the latest in a string of mess-ups from the troubled front-man - if anyone wants to put a bet on the next band to break-up, I would join them betting my 7 year journalist carer on these guys.

Disturbed Gets 'Down With The Sickness' 10 years later!

 Writer: Ian S. Russell
Photo Credit: Ian S. Russell (Rock City - Nottingham)
Yesterday (March 23rd) saw American metal-heads 'Disturbed' mark the 10th anniversary of the release of highly acclaimed album 'The Sickness' that gave birth to a whole new wave of attitude ridden metal to bring in the new century. If you have been hiding under a rock for the past 10 years and have not yet got your copy, we HIGHLY recommend getting the newly extended anniversary edition that saw its release yesterday.

The album was originally released in March 2000 and remains Disturbed's biggest-selling disc, with four million copies sold. The CD contained the singles "Stupify," "Voices" and "Down With the Sickness," which is the seventh most downloaded track of the last decade.

Guitarist Dan Donegan told us that the band never expected the song or album to do as well as it did: "I think 'Down With The Sickness' was like the seventh most downloaded song that was recorded in the '90s. It was like in a list of like four Michael Jackson songs and Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and we were in the Top 10 of those songs. And I was just blown away by those statistics. Those are big numbers there. I mean, we're just overwhelmed to think that we could go from a garage band in the south side of Chicago to selling a lot of albums and having a fan base and making a career out of it."

The 10th anniversary package features two previously unreleased bonus tracks and expanded artwork. It's also available on vinyl for the first time ever.

as-well as all these reasons to buy the new release, the band has also re-launched its website with a special section, accessible only by a code included with new copies of The Sickness, that will feature clips of the quartet in the studio recording their upcoming fifth album, due out later this year.

On a final note, The band are also set to release a brand new un-seen documentary DVD later this year - we will of-cause be carrying a review of this at our main site

In an interview with UK Radio station 'Absolute Radio' member of Foo Fighters & Them Crooked Vultures had admitted not only to being addicted to coffee, but also that he ended up being taken directly from the recording studio to a hospital after an apparent caffine overdose from the large intake of coffee.
Grohl said the following:
"We were in the studio making a record and I was drinking a lot of coffee. I was doing Vultures stuff at night, Foo Fighters stuff during the day and I had a newborn at home so I was sleeping two-three hours a night on an air mattress in a guest bedroom. And yeah, I had too much coffee, I started to get chest pains so I went to the hospital and they told me to stop drinking the coffee."

Dave is currently touring Europe with Them Crooked Vultures who have recently been confirmed for this years Download Festival.

Led Zeppelin Refuse Offer to Headline Download Festival

 Writer: Ian S. Russell

With the latest additions to the Download Festival 2010 line-up being announced last-night the festival world has once again seen an eruption in activity - all be it slightly disapointed activity from what I've seen.

To add to that disapointment, Andy Copping - the key figure from the Download Festival booking commity, has confirmed that Rock Legends Led Zeppelin turned down an offer to headline this years festival.

In an interview with XFM he made the following comments on the subject:
“Every single festival in the world approaches Led Zeppelin or their management to get them to pay at their festival,” Copping told XFM. “Loads of money gets thrown out. It’s not what they want to do at the moment and that’s fine. They probably never will, but everyone has a stab at it.”

Led Zeppelin have been on hiatus since there 1 off reunion gig in December 2007, it is said that Jimmy Page is very anxious to return to the live stage, but with Plant working on a new album, fans may have a while to wait.

Liam Gallagher Hits Out Again - His Next Target: U2

 Writer: Ian S. Russell
It seems Liam Gallagher is again feeling the spot-light is simply not directed at him enought at the moment - god knows how unless he himself is living under a rock.

The latest target for his foul mouthed aggresion is mutli-award winning rockers U2, they join the likes of Peter Kay, Liam's brother Noal, and even the entire ranks of british media. in a statement published today Liam made the following comments against the Bono-fronted icons:
"I have never seen a U2 fan. I have never seen anyone with a U2 shirt or been around someone's house that has a fucking U2 record."

"Where do their fans fucking come from? Where are they? I reckon they buy them. With all the money they've made, they just bought a load of people and every time they do a gig they get a shovel and pile them into their gigs to make them look good."

We hope Liam gets a new dummy soon, maybe that will keep him entertained and away from Twitter long enought to have some calming tea or somthing.

INTERVIEWED: Slash

 Writer: Ian S. Russell

Both the music world, and this little news feed has been abuzz with news revolving around the iconic rocker 'Slash' - Guns N' Roses reunion? No, for once the storys have not only been based primerily on fact, but have also actually been about the man himself, and not former band-mate and wild-man Axl Rose.

Well, thanks to those kind people over at Ultimate-Guitar.com we have a few snippits from there latest interview with Slash, read the full interview over at www.Ultimate-Guitar.com

Ultimate-Guitar.com: We spoke back in September of 2009 and you were already talking about a solo record then. This project must have been a long time in the making.

Slash: What happened was I wrote this book ["Slash"] and one of the passages in the book, I said something about, "The next record I'd like to do would be a record where I could get a lot of people that I've worked with to come and sing on my record as opposed to me always going and jamming and doing sessions for other people." And I was starting to think outside of the box at that point because the VELVET thing I knew wasn't gonna last much longer than that tour. At least the lineup that we had.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: That's when you started giving thought to a solo album?

Slash: So I was starting to think of other things and I needed the outlet. I needed to do something where I was just captain of my own ship for a minute. I'm not saying that I want to do this permanently but I just needed to, after all the stuff with GUNS 'N ROSES and then VELVET REVOLVER, I just needed to do something to sort of get my own ya yas out.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: You didn't want to do another SNAKEPIT-styled record?

Slash: I didn't want to put together another band. SNAKEPIT was a band; everybody wrote, everybody had equal input even though I had my name on it. I'm so used to being in a band that I just never really tried to do anything else. So what happened was we finished the tour and Scott [Weiland] got fired right after we walked off the stage in Amsterdam. So as soon as I got home I started compiling material and started looking at a solo record. I started writing and doing all that kind of stuff. I also scored a movie so I was spending a lot of time just sort of creating.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: You were in a really musical place?

Slash: I put together a bunch of material and I started thinking who would sound good. I did one song and said, "This would sound great for Ozzy" or the Fergie song ("Beautiful Dangerous") was totally pegged for her. And that's how the whole record was.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: You say that Fergie was the perfect person to sing this track you had written. You didn't have any other choices, for example, but Fergie on that music you were putting together?

Slash: Yeah, exactly. There were a few songs I didn't know who was gonna sing but for the most part I put something together, listened to it, and thought, "Who would sound great on that particular track?" And most of it worked out; there were a couple people that I didn't necessarily get but it all worked out for the better because who I ended up getting on it was way better than my original idea.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: Were you thinking about vocal melodies during the demo stage? Did you have any rough ideas for vocals or anything?

Slash: It was really sort of an open canvas for any singer that I chose. I was thinking more along the lines of I was putting choruses together and I'd put a bridge in. Sometimes it would only be two parts; sometimes it would be more of a song structure and just say, "Have at it. It's totally open to your interpretation and we change the arrangement if need be. Whatever it is."

Ultimate-Guitar.com: Ozzy actually recorded this at his home studio. Were you there when he cut the vocal?

Slash: Yeah. It was great; I'm glad you brought that up. I've known Ozzy for a while; we met in the late '80s. He's one of those icons that I sort of grew up with and I've had defined experiences listening to SABBATH and listening to Ozzy growing up. It's like the background music to my life. Anyway to be sitting next to Ozzy working on one of my songs and him singing into the microphone, to have that voice just sort of casually singing right next to me was definitely an experience. It was very cool. He was writing and working on the lyrics and singing into the microphone.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: Having Lemmy in the studio doing "Doctor Alibi" must have been cool.

Slash: That was another great moment; having Lemmy come down. Because Lemmy was one of those guys that I so looked up to and I still do. When I was a kid, I was one of those Lemmy fans that would bow in his presence. And we got to be friends and he's always sort of taken me under his wing kind of thing and he's always been really cool. Lemmy is one of those kinds of guys who can have a real serious attitude if he wants to. He's actually a really nice guy in general. I always thought he was sort of intimidating but he was always really nice to me. And I've had a chance to work with him; I've played on one of their records ["March or Die"] and I've done a lot of gigs with 'em. I asked him if he'd be interested and I sent him the thing and he got it right away and he came down to the studio.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: Lemmy must have been a little crazy in the studio?

Slash: We had bottle of Jack Daniels and a couple bags of potato chips and it reminded me of when I used to show up at sessions. It was great. And the song is all about how the doctor told him how he might have to quit partying and then another doctor said, "No, you need to continue." It's a great personal thing; I'm really honored to have it on there.

Ultimate-Guitar.com: When you really think about it, you making this type of record really makes sense. Because you have done all these different kinds of sessions and worked with different types of musicians on their albums so you do have all these different musical experiences.

Slash: I needed to get it out of my system. But the timing was such that I couldn't have made this record anytime prior to this particular period. The motivation was there but also it took all these years to collect enough credibility to call up a guy like Steve Ferrone and say, "Hey, would you come down and play on a track?" It was nerve wracking just to make the phone calls and see whether they would do it or not. But I'm sure it might not have been as easy had I not established these relationships with people. And it was a perfect time to do it because VELVET at least with Scott had run its course. I couldn't go through that process of auditioning singers and get that all back together to do another VELVET record. I really needed a break from the band vibe. So maybe it was in the cards to do this now.

The Gorillaz Land Themselves In Hot Water?

 Writer: Ian S. Russell

British semi-virtual band The Gorillaz today find themselves (or at-least there management company) in hot water over an alleged copyright issue. Guyana born Eddy Grant - who has seen mediocre chart succsess since the late 70's has today released a press statement claiming he is 'very angry' and 'shocked' at the 'blatant rip off' of his track 'Time Warp'.
Grant claims that the title track from the new Gorillaz album: 'Stylo' is an almost identical copy of his track 'Time Warp'.

An extract from the statement reads:
'"I am very angry that this was not picked up by our mutual publisher EMI's administration division. I do not blame my publishers but, the state of the industry at the current time with all labels and publishers folding into one and becoming incestuous. It’s such an obvious copy that from day one the band and their management should have taken control of this situation with EMI Publishing. I would like the outcome to be that the band admits that they have lifted my song, that I have a full credit for the song and an apology from the band.' Eddy Grant.'

I have myself had time to check both tracks - we actually will be carrying a review for the full Gorillaz album next month - and I do have to acknowledge a very close resemblance between the 2 tracks.

EMI are yet to comment.
