The Hold Steady - New Album Info Released

 Writer: Ian S. Russell

Brooklyn-based Rock 4-piece 'The Hold Steady' have today reviled plans for there next album: 'Heaven Is Whenever'. The new album set for release May 3 on Rough Trade in the UK (and May 4 in the USA on Vagrant Records.)

The album was produced by Dean Baltulonis, who engineered the band’s debut album 'Almost Killed Me’ and produced their second album 'Separation Sunday’. 'Heaven Is Whenever’ was recorded at Dreamland Recording Studios in up-state NY and Wild Arctic Studios in Queens, NY, with mixing also happening at Wild Arctic.

Singer Craig Finn says 'Heaven Is Whenever’ is about 'embracing suffering and finding reward in our everyday lives'. Piano and keys, though still present, take a backseat to guitar on the new record, which also gets production help from lead guitarist Tad Kubler.

Following the release of 2008’s critically acclaimed 'Stay Positive’ which gave the band it’s highest Billboard chart position to date, and a Top 15 album in the UK, The Hold Steady toured relentlessly, playing to some of their biggest audiences to date.

MUSE Named Best Band at NME Awards 2010 + more

 Writer: Ian S. Russell

2 nights ago 1 of the biggest 'real music' awards shows was held - We say this as the BRITS and other such shows offer very little music that we concider deserving of the CD it is transfered onto, let alone an award.

Anyway, mini rant over, the winner of the most prestigious award was rocker MUSE, who picked up the 'Best Band' award beating off competition from, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Biffy Clyro and Oasis to win the award.

One final point we would like to pick up on from the award show was the odd catorgory of 'Worst Band' - now we have no real problem with the winners (Jonas Brothers) who are VERY deserving of the award... But the nominees included Paramore, GreenDay & the now iconic Brit-pop hero's Oasis - If the award was 'The Worst Band ATTITUDE' then maybe Oasis are deserving of a vote, but come on - Oasis as the worst band? Step your game up a lil NME please.

Deftones Change direction - Album now finished

Writer: Ian S. Russell
American rockers 'Deftones' have set a release date for there upcoming album 'Diamond Eyes' it will be released on May 18th. The band last year finished recording of  what was meant to be there next album entitled 'Eros' but the band decided to drop this album earlyer this year due to the current health status of bassist Cheng who was critically injured in a car crash in 2008.

In a press release the band said they are attempting to create a positive and optimistic album. 'The songs on the album do not feature songs about complaining, hurting, or how "life sucks" – a common lyrical theme Moreno (vocals) has noticed since the early 90s,' the statement reads.

We look forward to hearing this new change in direction.

Title:  Liverpool Sound City Announce The Maccabees

Date: Feb 24th 2010
Liverpool Sound City are delighted to announce their partnership with Eat Your Own Ears which is due to see The Maccabees play 2 shows at Liverpool's 02 Academy on the closing day of the festival. With two sterling albums under their belt including last year's 'Wall of Arms' The Maccabees recently collaborated with Roots Manuva and are currently headlining this year's Showckwaves NME Awards tour.

Festival Director Dave Pichilingi welcomed the addition with these comments:
"Eat Your Own Ears and The Maccabees fit perfectly with the Sound City ethos.  Eat Your Own Ears are the coolest promoters in the UK.  They promote and book for some of the best festivals in the UK including Field Day and underage Festival.  Their line ups are always eclectic and like our very own bookers they have those amazing ears and knack to book the right things at the right time.  They do not jump on bandwagons but instead serve to present the best acts before anybody else gets to hear of them.  Notable successes over the past few years include Hot Chip, The Temper Trap, Florence and the Machine and The Big Pink. Like our bookers they have worked with Maccabees from their earliest roots.  This is going to be a must see show for Sound City 2010. "

Aerosmith added to Download 2010 lineup

Writer: Dell Waring
Title: Aerosmith added to Download 2010 Line up.
Date: Feb 22nd 2010

AEROSMITH are the latest band added to the DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL lineup, which also includes AC/DC and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, After months of speculation the band have reunited with their longtime lead singer for the festival at Donington Park in Leicestershire.
Last week, Joe Perry, Guitarist of Aerosmith stated “while he’s away working on other projects, the rest of us want to carry on playing live” when asked about Tyler’s hiatus from the band. "We will be bring another singer to make this happen." Billy Idol, Paul Rodgers and Lenny Kravitz have been approached by the group since Christmas time. “how long will Steven be away?” Perry asked. “He says it’ll be two years, but i believe it will be a lot sooner. We may only do 10 shows with the new person”
Maybe a substitute will not be needed after all, Download Festival’s band booker Andy Copping states that Steve Tyler will be joining Aerosmith this June at Donington Park. Whether Tyler is to return to Aerosmith full-time, or just for this one-off, has not yet been made clear.
Download takes place from 11-13 June. Other acts confirmed for this year's festival include Bullet For My Valentine, 30 Seconds To Mars, Stone Sour, Stone Temple Pilots and More!

Slash Comments On Current Status Of Velvet Revolver

Writer: Ian S. Russell
Title:  Slash Comments On Current Status Of Velvet Revolver

Date: Feb 22nd 2010
Yesterday I posted an article on-line about the new book from Ex Guns & Roses Bassist Duff McKagan, In which I stated that the current status of rock-super-group 'Velvet Revolver' was unknown, Well today we have had at least a little clarification on the matter.

In an interview with www.rollingstone.com the rock legend stated they hope to resume the search for a vocalist once again after the band are done with there side projects. Slash is currently working on his solo career, as-well as promoting his upcoming album in-which he is working with friends. Slash also stated that Duff (Bass) is currently working with Rock band 'Janes Addiction'.

As a long-term Velvet Revolver fan I really do hope the search continues and the band find a fitting replacement for Scott Whieland - who was kicked out of the band back in 2008 due to his erratic behaviour, on & off the stage
